Terms of use
Last updated November 6, 2026
Draft. This text is being reviewed and may change before qot is open to everyone.
These terms are between you and Abstract Syntax LLC (“we”), the maker of qot (Quantum of Thought). They cover the qot apps, the sync service at quantumofthought.com, and this website (together, “qot”). By using qot you agree to them. Anything they don’t cover is governed by the Abstract Syntax LLC Terms of Use, including how disputes are resolved; where the two disagree about qot, these terms win.
Early access
qot is new and in early use. It may change, break or lose features without notice, and it may
be unavailable at times. Keep your own copy of anything you can’t afford to lose
(qot export, see Support).
Your account
You need an email address you control to sync. You’re responsible for what happens on your signed-in devices; sign out of any you no longer use. One account per person.
Your notes
Your notes are yours. We claim no ownership of them. You give us only the permission needed to store your notes and send them to your devices; it ends when you delete them or your account. How we handle them is in the privacy policy.
Fair use
Don’t use qot to break the law, to store or spread anything illegal, to harm others, or to attack, overload or get around the limits of the service or anyone’s account. qot is for notes: don’t use the sync service as bulk storage. We may suspend or close an account that does any of this, and will tell you why where we can.
Price
qot is free during early access. If any part of it becomes paid, we’ll say so on this site and email account holders before charging anything, and nothing will be charged without your agreement. The apps and your notes on your devices keep working either way.
Open source
qot’s source code is published under the GNU Affero General Public License v3.0, and that license, not these terms, governs what you may do with the code. These terms govern the service we run. “Quantum of Thought” and “qot” name this project and service; a fork is welcome but needs its own name.
Ending
You can stop at any time and delete your account with qot delete-account. We may end the
service, or your access to it; if we end the service, we’ll give account holders at least 30
days’ notice by email so you can export your notes.
No warranty, limited liability
qot is provided “as is”, without warranties of any kind, to the extent the law allows. We are not liable for lost notes or other indirect damages, and our total liability to you is limited to the amount you have paid us for qot in the past 12 months (today, nothing). Some places don’t allow these limits, so they may not apply to you.
Changes
We may update these terms. We’ll change the date above, and email account holders about changes that matter before they take effect. Using qot after that means you accept them.
